Norway is not a member of the EU. Therefore, imports from EU countries will generally be treated like imports from countries outside the EU.
Within the limit of NOK 6,000/3,000, you can bring the following goods with you duty free (see the limitations that apply to absences of less than 24 hours as mentioned above):
- One litre of an alcoholic beverage containing more than 22% and up to 60% alcohol by volume and one and a half litres containing more than 2.5% up to 22% alcohol by volume, or three litres of beverages containing more than 2.5% and up to 22% alcohol by volume
- Two litres of beer containing more than 2.5% alcohol by volume, or other beverage containing more than 2.5% and up to 4.7% alcohol by volume. This means, for example, that you can import five litres of beer if you do not have other alcoholic beverages with you
- 200 cigarettes or 250 grams of other tobacco products, and
- 200 sheets of cigarette papers
You must be over 18 years old to import alcoholic beverages. To import alcoholic beverages containing more than 22% alcohol by volume, you must be over 20 years old. You must be over 18 years old to import tobacco products.
CAR If you are a tourist who neither live, study, work or have a spouse or children under 18 years in Norway, you may use a vehicle registered in another country during the visit. You must be able to document that you are a tourist when you travel into the country and during your stay in Norway.
Currency of Norway
The currency in Norway is Norwegian Kroner (NOK) and 1 NOK is divided into 100 øre. Coins are circulated in the following denominations: 1 krone, 5 kroner, 10 kroner and 20 kroner. Notes are circulated in the following denominations: 50 kroner, 100 kroner, 200 kroner, 500 kroner and 1000 kroner.
Cash vs. card
Credit card is accepted everywhere around Lyngenfjord. You can even buy a cup of coffee for 20 NOK on your card! Most places prefer card with PIN-code but ATM card can also work. Check with your bank at home if there is an extra cost for paying with credit card.
There are no possibilities for exchange money in our region. The closest place is in Tromsø but there can be an extra charge for that. Therer are two cash machines in Lyngenfjord, one in Lyngseidet and the other is in Skibotn. If you shop in a food store, there is a chance you can withdraw money at the checkout.
