Explore the Arctic – Reisa National Park and Hurtigruten

The package for activity chasers and explorers. who want to leave Tromsø for a few days to explore the unknown Reisa Nationalpark. Inlcuded coastal steamer Hurtigruten and local flight.

The area around the Reisafjord is rich in Sami and Norwegian culture and a treasure for all nature lovers. We will take you on a dog sledding trip in the Reisa Valley, a Sami culture experience and opportunities to see the Northern Lights.

The arrival and departure are also exciting with a low flight over the famous Lyngen Alps and a trip back to Tromsø on the coastal steamer Hurtigruten.

Itinerary

1. Day: Flight to Sørkjosen, visit the local museum and Northern Light Safari
Take the bus to Tromsø aiport: At 10:15 will leave your plane (Dash 8) to your next destination: Sørkjosen. Due to the low altitude of the flight you might be able to catch a glimpse of the famous Lyngen Alps and you can get a first impression of the Norwegian Arctic.
Pick up from the airport to the nearby hotel – which is located on the shores of the Reisafjord.

We will then bring you to the local museum, where you can learn more about the local history. You will also have time to visit the village Storslett, where you can find many shops and the restaurants where you can eat a lunch (not included).

For dinner we serve you a two-course dinner based on local produce. Afterwards we will go chasing the Northern Lights. After a short transfer by car, we will find a protected place where we will make a bonfire and wait for the Northern Lights to appear. Back at midnight.

2. Day: Dogsledding and Northern Light Safari
After breakfast, you will try dog sledding in the beautiful Reisa valley.
The trip takes about 2 hours where you will drive your own dog team. During the dog sledding we will stop for a longer break where a hot meal and drinks will be served.

Back at the hotel, coffee, tea and waffles are waiting for you – a good Norwegian tradition.
Afterwards we will go chasing the Northern Lights. After a short transfer by car, we will find a protected place where we will make a bonfire and wait for the Northern Lights to appear. Back at midnight. 

3. Day: Sami Experiences and Hurtigruten
After breakfast, you can participate in Sami experiences with reindeer sledding, storytelling and traditional hot meal or in a snowmobile trip with ice fishing and snowshoeing before we drive you to Skjervøy in the evening. There you will take the coastal steamer, Hurtigruten, to Tromsø (departure: 19:45 - arrival 23:45).

On board the Hurtigruten you can have dinner (not included) while you pass the impressive Lyngen Alps. In addition, with a little luck, you have the chance to see the Northern Lights again.
On arrival in Tromsø, it is only a short walk from the quayside to your hotel.

  • NOK 10,895 per person in double room
  • NOK 11,655 per person in single room 

You are welcome to add some extra days at the Reisafjord Hotel to experience more in the region. 750, - NOK per night per person in a double room incl. half board.

Additional activities are available, when you stay longer:

  • Cross-country skiing (3-4 hours): Price: NOK 1,150 per person
  • After a short transfer we will go for cross-country skiing on a prepared track. If this is your first time on cross-country skis, our instructor will help you to learn this most traditional Norwegian sport.
    You will take a longer break during the trip where we will rest by a camp fire and serve snacks and hot drinks.
    Included: Guide, ski equipment, transfer, hot drinks and snacks.
  • Moose Safari with snowshoes (3-4 hours): Price: NOK 1,150 per person
    Join us on a snowshoe trip where we go in search of the biggest mammal in Norway, the moose. During the trip, we will make a bonfire and you will be served hot drinks and snacks.
    Included: Guide, Snowshoes, hot lunch and transfer
  • Whale watching (4 hours) – NOK 1.600
    From November until January killer and humpback whales are  hunting for herring in the fjord around Reisa and Skjervøy. We will go out on a boat to watch them.
    Included warm clothes, warm drinks and snacks.
  • Snowmobile tour with Ice fishing (4 hours) – NOK 1,900
    After a short transfer, your guides will bring you into the mountains with a snowmobile. You will sit in a sledge. When arrived at the frozen lake, you have the chance to try to drive a snowmobile by yourself. We will then drill some holes into the ice and try our luck with fishing.We serve warm drinks and a warm meal. After around two hours, we return.

Season: 1 December 2019 until 31 March 2020, except 22. - 26.12. 2019 

Arrival on the following days: Sunday – Friday

Saturday, we cannot provide you with the flight. If you would like to arrive on this day anyway, we will pick you up by bus from Tromsø (same price!).

No arrival at the: 24., 25. and 29.12.2019

Important note:

Bad weather can cause many problems in the High Arctic – flights and boats are cancelled or delayed and activities cannot proceed as planned. Please note that as a consequence the programme can be changed at short notice.

Activities: we reserve the right to modify the activity programme. We will do all activities, but we may change the day.

In case of bad weather, the flight from Tromsø to Sørkjosen may be cancelled. You will take a bus to Sørkjosen (3 hours) and meet up at the airport as per the flight details.
