Itinerary

Day 1: Let us know when you arrive in Tromsø so we can pick you up either at the airport or one of the hotels in downtown Tromsø. The drive to the Lyngen Alps will lead through fantastic mountains, along and over fjords to the cosy place Koppangen. Depending on whether you choose to have dinner provided or opt for self-catering, you will have the opportunity to buy food at the supermarkets in Lyngseidet.

Day 2: Start the day slowly with a long and relaxing breakfast. Afterwards you can use snowshoes, skis or simply go on a walk to discover your surroundings. Koppangen is situated in the middle of nature. Meet moose and watch dolphins from the shore, admire the breathtaking steep mountains rising directly from the fjord and experience the Northern Lights right on your doorstep.

After a long and exiting day, dinner will await you in the lavvu. Your host will serve a dinner based on local ingredients, like fish or reindeer prepared on the fire. Warm yourself around the campfire in the cosy lavvu while waiting for the Northern Lights to appear. Enjoy a cup of tea or coffee and eat some freshly baked waffles for dessert, listen to the stories told by your host and be ready for the lights to appear.

Day 3: After a rich breakfast you will head off on your Arctic adventure, which is either dog sledding, snowmobiling, ice fishing or a moose safari (NB: Ice fishing is often not available before January!).

Dog sledding: Before your tour starts, the guide will provide you with warm clothes and instructions about safety and how to drive your team of dogs. The dogs are friendly and enjoy their work. You get a chance to get to know them on your trip where you are surrounded by breathtaking nature, steep mountains and enchanted valleys. After you return to the basecamp, you will be served a hot lunch before returning to Koppangen. You will be back at Koppangen around 16.00 (4pm).

Snowmobiling: Before your tour starts, the guide will provide you with warm clothes and instructions about safety and how to operate the snowmobile. During the tour, you will have several stops to photograph the Arctic scenery. Initially, we drive on easy terrain and follow the local valleys. After you return to the basecamp, you will be served a hot lunch before returning to Koppangen. You will be back at Koppangen around 16.00 (4pm).

Snowshoeing and Ice Fishing on sea ice: Transfer to the ferry that takes you to Olderdalen at 09.00 (9am). Your guide will pick you up at the ferry in Olderdalen and drive with you to the Kåfjord. On arrival, he will show you how to use snowshoes and take you on a 2-3 km walk depending on your level and motivation. After the snowshoeing, we will head for the sea ice. We will use kick sledges or snowshoes to move around. We will find a good place for ice fishing. We will take a break, light an open fire and serve hot drinks and snacks. You will arrive back in Lyngseidet by ferry at 16.00 (4pm).

Moose Safari by snowshoes: Transfer to the ferry that takes you to Olderdalen at 09.00 (9am). Your guide will pick you up at the ferry pier in Olderdalen and drive you to Spåkenes. On arrival, he will show you how to use snowshoes. If you need a warm thermal suit and winter boots, these will be provided for you. We will then walk on the Spåkenes Peninsula in search of moose. The total walking distance depends on the group and the moose. You will walk around 2-3 km in the snow using snowshoes. We will take a break during the trip, light an open fire and serve hot drinks and snacks. We will return to the camp at 14:30 (2.30pm) followed by a transfer back to Olderdalen. We will arrival in Olderdalen 15:00 (3pm) and Lyngseidet at 16:00 (4pm).
